Try doing the controled heating anyway. Mine still had three rings when I turned it on and I heated it for around 30 minutes, it worked fine afterwards.

Hey I followed all of the steps exactly…cleaned the graphic card with rubbing alcohol really well until it shined…reapplied some arctic silver switched to the bolts with one steel and nylon washer on each side…i even tried using the penny trick (remove the white spongy heat absorbers from the back nd put 2 pennys wrapped in electrical tape nd put those on there with some arctic silver. still no luck. still keep getting e74 when i try to turn it on for “control heat”. any suggestions/ideas?

not fixing a long term error and making people pay to get it fixed buy them is a smart way to get money but still they should have at least tried to fix it before sending more out with the same problem

Updated post – i realized my nylon washers were too thick. i removed the steel washers, tried it again, and all is well. Great video. Thanks.

wataaaaaaahhhhhh December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

i did this fix and bout an hour later i got the same error

phenoixfire252 December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Well this fix worked for me at the start, played about an hour of MW2 after I fixed it then went to sleep. Today I can get about 5 minutes into a game and the Xbox will freeze. I also got a “Disc unreadable” error once. It seems to freeze every time but without any error showing up. Is there some way to fix this? Or is there a way to have caused this during this fix, cuse it hasn’t happened before.

TheFFVIIaddict December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

no but it keeps the system lasting longer

He has a bandaid on his thumb…gee wonder if he got cut trying to remove the x-clamps…Happened to me last night when I was doing the x-clamp fix on my Xbox for the first time. I was getting the 0020 error code and all I had to do was remove both heatsinks, clean off all the thermal paste (there was a TON if it) and reapply with Arctic Silver then reinstall heatsinks and I actually reused the original x-clamps and I powered it on and it WORKS!

jidar December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Now that we’re about a year removed from when people started doing this the verdict is in… drilling and then bolting to the chassis is much more effective for long term replacement compared to just replacing the X-Clamps.

Also, all of you dipshits that did a “towel trick” or the like.. yeah you probably have caused all kinds of problems in your electronics so don’t expect any fix to work long term.

this fix worked on my xbox for 2 days (about 1 hour of gaming)……. get same error now

TheRealYxL December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

wow it doenst work thank you

TeamHutton December 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

This is the first video to explain WHY RROD occurs and justifies the method for the fix. Tried it, it works perfectly first time out of gate and only cost about $4 bucks in parts, and $10 for silver but it will last forever. This works so good I will be listing on CL to repair for others at small cost. Thanks dude, you rock!!!!!!!
